Long Range Plan
Second Presbyterian Church (2PC) is Christ's church. The role of the Long Range Planning Committee was not to create a vision for 2PC, but rather to help discover Christ's vision for our church and the intentionally balanced strategies, essential actions and methodologies needed to reach His vision. The process was founded in prayer and incorporated the guidance and input of the congregation, leadership and key community members through numerous surveys, interviews, discussion groups and one-on-one meetings. The committee endeavored on an eight month journey spending over 2,500 hours reading articles, books and research reports, attending conferences, visiting with community and faith leaders from other churches, sharing thoughts and ideas and, most importantly, in prayer.
Proverbs 16:9 states that "the mind of a man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps". This process of prayer-driven discovery has resulted in identifying God's mission, purpose, vision, core values, strategy, key objectives and action plans for 2PC. The plan and its appendices as adopted by Session on December 19, 2006 are available in their entirety on the 2PC website at the top of this page.
The plan itself is only a starting point, not a final destination. Significant effort will be necessary to execute the plan and incorporate the principles and objectives it espouses in all of the activities of the church. In addition, the plan must be kept updated, fresh and alive.
