Music at Second Presbyterian Church

The Music Ministry of Second Presbyterian Church seeks to lift up God's word through Music by leading people in and preparing people for spirit-filled and truth-filled worship. Music inspires and calls God's people to a deeper level of worship and teaches adults and children alike that God is praised through singing and playing instruments.

The Music Ministry at Second Pres. seeks to give young and old a new song to sing all their life long.

Instrumental Music

Instrumental ensembles are formed for regular participation in the 9:00 am traditional worship service as well as occasional participation in special services throughout the year. If you're interested in playing an instrument in an ensemble contact Doris Hill ( ) at 828.6297 ext. 315.

The contemporary worship band leads worship at the 11:00 contemporary service. If you play an instrument, are a vocalist or would like to help lead contemporary worship, contact Anthony Atkinson ( ).

Adult Choirs

The Chapel Choir leads worship every Sunday for the 9:00 am traditional service. They also present special programs throughout the church year and prepare major classical choral works for performance (e.g. the Elijah -2007). Every five years they also go on tour in Europe.

  • The choir practices on Wednesday evenings for 1.5 hours. Everyone who likes to sing and enjoys fellowship with other choir members is welcome to join.

The Chorale occasionally sings for worship, special programs, recitals, and civic opportunities.

  • The Chorale practices on Wednesday evenings from 5 - 6 pm. and welcomes everyone interested who likes to sing but maybe cannot commit to sing every Sunday. The fellowship is great!

Special Ensembles include Men's Quartets, Ladies Trio, duets, solos, and more.

Student Choirs

The Chancel Choir (Grades 9-12) gives students the opportunity to sing every week in the 11:00 am Contemporary Worship service. They also take an annual spring tour, which alternates directions each year between north, south, east, and west where they sing in concerts and help in mission projects.

  • The Chancel Choir rehearses on Sunday evenings for 1.5 hours weekly. All high school students who want to sing are more than welcome to join.

The Carillon Choir (Grades 6-8) occasionally sings for worship and for special services at Christmas, Easter, and for Choir Sunday. They also occasionally present musicals.

  • The Carillon Choir rehearses weekly on Wednesday evenings from 6:10 - 6:50.

The Covenant Choir (Grades 3-5) occasionally sings for worship and for special services at Christmas, Easter, and for Choir Sunday. They also occasionally present musicals.

  • The Covenant Choir rehearses weekly on Wednesday evenings from 5:00 - 5:40 pm.

The Cherub Choir (Grades K-2) occasionally sings for worship and for special services at Christmas, Easter, and for Choir Sunday. They also occasionally present musicals.

  • The Cherub Choir rehearses weekly on Wednesday evenings 6:10 - 6:50 pm
